How Foreign Aid Deals With Israel Essay - 2090 Words
Though these diplomatic travesties are enough to call our diplomatic relationship into question, the United States still continues to give Israel large sums of foreign aid. Glenn Greenwald, the author of four best-selling law and policy books, and co-founder of The Intercept, an online news-outlet he co-founded. In response to President Barack Obamaââ¬â¢s announcement to sign a deal that increases the amount of Israelââ¬â¢s funding, he published ââ¬Å"As Israel Prospers, Obama Set to Give Billions More in Aid While Netanyahu Demands Even More.â⬠He writes United States gave over $3.1 billion taxpayer dollars to Israel in 2015ââ¬ânearly half the foreign aid budgetââ¬âtotaling over $38 billion in aid for the next ten years. The article explores how foreign aid deals with Israel surmount aid to any other country, even though Israel no longer has a flourishing economy. Despite the countryââ¬â¢s financial prosperity, Netanyahu continues to ask for more U.S. taxpayer dollars. According to Greenwald, Netanyahu hoped to receive $5 billion USD this year. Netanyahu also openly opposed U.S. initiatives to direct Israelââ¬â¢s aid to American military contractors instead of Israeli ones. Greenwald puts this diplomatic faux pau into simple terms: ââ¬Å"usually, when someone hands you billions of dollars in aid, youââ¬â¢re not in much of a position to demand more.â⬠He continues that ââ¬Å"the rules for Israel when it comes to U.S. policy, as is so often the case, are simply different.â⬠Other journalists feed theShow MoreRelatedIran and Access to Nuclear Weapons1402 Words à |à 6 Pagestype of fear would give Iran and its terrorists an edge on the world stage. Challenges Related to Quality of the Products or Services Faced by Domino's Pizza Australia Every business faces challenges due to the various reasons. A questioning session and interviewing session was conducted for analysis of the challenges which are adversely affected the quality of the products or services. During the questioning and interviewing the employees of Dominos Pizza Australia, few challenges have been identified which are affecting delivering quality products and services. These challenges are related to the quick delivery of the products and high employee turnover (Bhushan Somvanshi, 2016). Dominos has committed to deliver the products within the time limit but failure in meeting this commitment has affected the delivery of quality products to the customers. Quick service facility of Dominos is a major challenge for Dominos. Another challenge is high employee turnover and the reason behind this challenge is lack of proper training and development programs. These challenges need to be dealt in an effective manner for enhancing the performance of Dominos (Fe rguson, 2017). Quality Management Tools Selected for Domino's Pizza Australia Challenges which are being faced by Dominos include lacking in providing quick service and high employee turnover. These challenges are the responsible adverse impact on the delivery of the quality products or services. Quality management tools will be adopted by Dominos for coping with these challenges. Quality management tools which will be used by Dominos are total quality management technique and six sigma technique. Total quality management is adopted with a motive to focus on the long-term success of the business by satisfying the customers of the business. This technique requires support from different members of the organisation. Continuous improvement is done by engaging employees in the process of quality management (Singh, et. al., 2012). Eight elements are there in TQM which include a focus on customers, engaging employees, process centred, integration of system, strategic and systematic approach, continuous improvement, decision making on the basis of facts and communication. This technology will help Dominos in engaging the employees by developing them which will help in reducing the employee turnover rates. Focus on the customers is the key principle of this technique which will help in meeting the commitment of quick service (Sujova, et. al., 2016). This key principle of the TQM will focus on providing training to the employees, managing the work teams and empowering the employees. Th e high rate of employee turnover is the result of lack of employee engagement and lack of training and development sessions. This technique will be implemented by Dominos with the help of formulation and adoption of strategies, collecting data and effectively communicating the roles among the employees. Training sessions will be conducted for enhancing the engagement of employees (Isa, 2015). Another tool which will be used by Dominos for coping with the challenges is six sigma. The motive behind using this technique is stabilising the operations, identifying the defects and treating them and enhancing the capability of the process. A DMAIC framework will be adopted in this technique which includes defining, measure, analyse, improve and control. The focus of this technique is on enhancing the quality of the process by identification and elimination of the defects (Ciurea Nedelcu, 2014). DMAIC framework of the six sigma technique will help in resolving the issues of employee turnover which increases the cost of the business and meeting the commitment of quick service. Application of this technique will help in enhancing the satisfaction level of the employees and customers. Both the challenges faced by Dominos are related to employees and customers. For the implementation of six sigma technique, support will be gained from the executive management, allocation of resource s will be done, training will be provided and data will be collected for making a decision (Azizi, 2015). Reasons Behind Selecting Quality Management Tools Major challenges in front of Dominos is to reduce the employee turnover rates, meeting the training and development needs and providing quick service to its customers. Total quality management and six sigma techniques have been selected for coping with the challenges Dominos is facing. The motive behind the selection of these techniques is to resolve the issues or challenges Dominos is facing. These techniques have been analysed effectively for analysing the suitability of the techniques for the challenges faced by Dominos. Total quality management technique will be implemented along with the eight principles for generating the desired outcomes. Six Sigma technique will help in detecting the issue in a proper manner and will help in improving the condition by controlling the issues faced by Dominos. Both these techniques will enhance the engagement of employees and customers by targeting the issues faced by both the stakeholders (Radhakrishnan, 2011). Conclusion Thus, from the above discussion, it has been concluded that Dominos Pizza Australia is facing challenges due to lack of its capability of meeting quick service commitment and high employee turnover. For the purpose of coping with the challenges affecting the delivery of quality products or services, Dominos will apply total quality management technique and six sigma technique. Both these techniques will help in coping with the challenges faced by Dominos. These techniques have been selected as these techniques will help in dealing with the challenges in an effective manner. These techniques have been selected due to their feasibility for coping with the challenges. Style Essays (526 words) - Suit, Workwear, Clothing, Fashion
Simply Stylish: Your Ideal Silhouette What is Style? Style is the image or impression that you project to the world. Is it innate, or is it something that can be learned and refined? For some women, putting themselves together well is purely instinctive as they are naturally drawn to the right styles and colours for their body. For others research, an understanding of their body shape and good advice can be the right ingredients to achieving personal style. Even the most stylish women often have mentors or stylists to help them make the right clothing choices. Women with style consider carefully what they purchase and give thought to whatever they wear and wherever they wear it. Style isn?t about money, it is about making the right clothing choices. Stylish women understand how to mix and match their wardrobe and they have good taste. Stylish women also know how to adapt current looks to suit their age. Few things are more self affirming than dressing well. As Yves St Laurent said, ?fashion fades, style is eternal? How to Achieve Style Five major elements go into the creation of a garment. These are shape or silhouette, design details, colour, fabric weight and texture and fabric print and pattern. To find a garment with all these elements ideal for you can be difficult, but aim to achieve at least 3 out of the 5. With this knowledge, you can choose the best style suited to your shape, colouring and personality. In developing your personal style, consider also: Comfort ~ wear clothes that fit you perfectly, suit your personality and lifestyle. Confidence ~ know that you are presenting yourself at your best. Illusion ~ accentuate your positives and camouflage your challenges. Individuality ~ be you, not a clone of someone else. Appropriateness ~ dress appropriately for every occasion. Attitude ~ be positive. Current ~ maintain a current appearance. Body Proportion Analysis Your Ideal Silhouette is designed to provide women with an objective approach to successful dressing. Armed with only your dress size, shopping can be a frustrating experience if you have no real idea about what suits your body type, resulting in time wasted in the fitting room and money wasted on clothes that may or may not fit well or which may or may not be flattering to your figure. The programme will help you to take control of your wardrobe by eliminating poor clothing choices and aid in the selection of only those items that maximise positive features and minimise problem areas. Emphasis is placed on how to project a professional, polished and self-confident image. Measuring Up A woman?s body is divided into 4 sections to determine her proportions. The ideal body is supposed to be equal in each section. The sections are from the top of the head to the full bust, the full bust to the full hip, the full hip to the centre of the knee, the centre of the knee to the floor. Unequal proportions are not a problem. It is important, however, to know where you are long and short so that garment lengths can be altered to give you a balanced appearance.

American Lobster Facts
American Lobster Facts Some think of lobster as a bright red delicacy served up with a side of butter. The American lobster (often called the Maine lobster), while a popular seafood, is also a fascinating animal with a complex life. Lobsters have been described as aggressive, territorial, and cannibalistic, but you may be surprised to know theyve also been referred to as tender lovers. The American lobster (Homarus americanus) is one of about 75 species of lobsters worldwide. The American lobster is a clawed lobster, versus the spiny, clawless lobster that is common in warmer waters. The American lobster is a well-known marine species and is easily recognizable from its two hefty claws down to its fan-like tail. Appearance: American lobsters are generally a reddish-brown or greenish color, although there are occasionally unusual colors, including blue, yellow, orange or even white. American lobsters can be up to 3 feet long and weigh up to 40 pounds. Lobsters have a hard carapace. The shell does not grow, so the only way the lobster can increase its size is by molting, a vulnerable time in which it hides, shrinks and withdraws from its shell, and then its new shell hardens over a couple months. One very noticeable feature of the lobster is its very strong tail, which it can use to propel itself backwards. Lobsters can be very aggressive animals, and fight with other lobsters for shelter, food and mates. Lobsters are highly territorial and establish a hierarchy of dominance within the community of lobsters that live around them. Classification: Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Arthropoda SuperClass: Crustacea Class: Malacostraca Order: Decapoda Family: Nephropidae Genus: Homarus Species: americanus American lobsters are in the phylum Arthropoda, which means they are related to insects, shrimp, crabs and barnacles. Arthropods have jointed appendages and a hard exoskeleton (outer shell). Feeding: Lobsters were once thought to be scavengers, but recent studies have revealed a preference for live prey, including fish, crustaceans and mollusks. Lobsters have two claws - a larger crusher claw, and a smaller ripper claw (also known as the cutter, pincher, or seizer claw). Males have larger claws than females of the same size. Reproduction and Life Cycle: Mating occurs after the female molts. Lobsters display a complex courtship/mating ritual, in which the female picks a male to mate with and approaches his cave-like shelter, where she produces a pheromone and wafts it in his direction. The male and female then engage in a boxing ritual, and the female enters the males den, where she eventually molts and they mate before the females new shell hardens. For detailed descriptions of a lobsters mating ritual, see the Lobster Conservancy or the Gulf of Maine Research Institute. The female carries 7,000-80,000 eggs under her abdomen for 9-11 months before larvae are hatched. The larvae have three planktonic stages during which they are found at the waters surface, and then they settle to the bottom where they remain for the rest of their lives. Lobsters reach adulthood after 5-8 years, but it takes about 6-7 years for a lobster to reach the edible size of 1 pound. It is thought that American lobsters can live for 50-100 years or more. Habitat and Distribution: The American lobster is found in the North Atlantic Ocean from Labrador, Canada, to North Carolina. Lobsters can be found both in coastal areas and offshore along the continental shelf. Some lobsters may migrate from offshore areas during the winter and spring to inshore areas during the summer and fall, while others are long-shore migrants, traveling up and down the coast. According to the University of New Hampshire, one of these migrants traveled 398 nautical miles (458 miles) over 3 1/2 years. Lobster In the Colonies: Some accounts, such as that in Mark Kurlanskys book say that early New Englanders did not want to eat lobsters, even though the waters were so rich in lobsters that they were literally crawling out of the sea and piling up inhospitably on the beaches. (p. 69) It was said that lobsters were considered a food fit only for poor. Evidently New Englanders eventually developed a taste for it. In addition to harvesting, lobsters are threatened by pollutants in the water, which can accumulate in their tissues. Lobsters in highly-populated coastal areas are also prone to shell rot or shell burn disease, which results in dark holes burned into the shell. Coastal areas are important nursery areas for young lobsters, and young lobsters could be affected as the coast is developed more heavily and population, pollution and sewage runoff increases. Lobsters Today and Conservation: The lobsters biggest predator is humans, who have seen lobster as a luxury food item for years. Lobstering has increased greatly over the last 50 years. According to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, lobster landings increased from 25 million pounds in the 1940s and 1950s to 88 million pounds in 2005. Lobster populations are considered stable throughout much of New England, but there has been a decrease in catch in Southern New England. References and Further Information ASMFC. 2009. Evidence Based Management with relation to Corrections Research Paper
Evidence Based Management with relation to Corrections - Research Paper Example It is the key through which the world renowned organizations keep the operations ongoing and consistent. Thus, it is easier to learn the science of management than the art of management, it is also notable that Evidence-based Management particularly deals with the science of management, which can be easily taught or learnt and can be later used for different applications, especially for the management of corrections (Rousseau 20). The formal definition of Evidence-based Management (EBM) explains that it is a science of methodical and evidence clued-up application of managerial tools and techniques. It has its roots in the incorporated scientific knowledge and the styles of decision making. In order to utilize the scientific techniques and to achieve the organizational goals and objectives EBM help the managers to come up with better decisions in favor of the organization. This implies that EBM is an evolution in the world of corporations and management sciences. It has rearranged the ways and styles of corporate managers and has enabled them to make calculated and risk free decision. The definition of EBM has following two core elements which distinguish it from other branches of managerial science (Latham 52). Utilize the management tools and techniques which have proven to be exceptionally reliable and valid with respect to the case in hand. Utilize the researched information in such a way that it makes clear sense to you and is based on the unambiguous ideas. The scientific approaches used in EBM are mainly concerned about the approaches related to critical thinking; which is defined as looking and seeking out for the inside story. Then comes the human judgment; which is though reliable and authentic yet at times it fails to do justified acts and it is here when EBM comes to play its role. Finally the last approach constituting EBM is decision making; there are different styles of decision making taught to the future managers and corporate professionals as a ccurate and calculated decision making is the key to successful business activity. Everything is initiated by a logical and evidence based analysis of the situation which is then followed by the evaluation of alternatives and finally choosing the best suitable option. All of these scientific approaches play vital role in acquiring quality information and position it in a way that it servers the right purpose. The EBM tools and techniques enable the business professionals to build quality managerial skills along with the improved intellect, judgment criteria and subsequently enhanced competencies. EBM does not simplifies the problem for the managers neither it makes it difficult to be generalized instead EBM provides the correct passage through which problems and issues pertaining to organizations or any other institution can be resolved easily, effectively and efficiently. In a nutshell EBM is the source through which all the human, technological and social abilities are put togethe r in order to get the best results and outcomes. However, especial EBM skills cannot be learnt and practiced through taking a course at university level rather it is something that is developed with huge timely investment over an individualââ¬â¢s career (Rousseau 69). Wal-Mart principles Essay Example for Free
Wal-Mart principles Essay Introduction As pointed out by Craig Herkert, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Wal-Mart International, ââ¬Å"Every day low prices, quality assortment, and exceptional service are Wal-Mart principles that transcend borders, languages and cultural differences.â⬠(Daniels, Radebaugh and Sullivan, 2004). Wal-Martââ¬â¢s success in the retail industry depends on how the company may incorporate its customer strategy in a market completely different from its home business. Wal-mart inevitably find their operations growing more complex. One reason for this is the large number of individual decision makers (buyers, distributors, and store personnel) who have a significant effect on strategy and execution and who add complexity through their everyday actions (Bianco et al, 2007). Another is that the high fixed costs of retailing exert continual pressure to add new products and capture incremental revenue. Not only does this ratchet up complexity, it also raises the cost of selecting, buying, and delivering each product. The predictable result: buyers have to make too many decisions for too many different types of store on too little information. Although sometimes Wal-Mart underestimate the cost financial and operational of added retail complexity (Bailey and Schultz, 2000). In financial terms, this complexity is directly reflected in selling, administrative, and other operating costs. Among department stores, the cost gap between good and average performers can be 3 percentage points or more; among specialty stores, up to 5 percentage points. In operational terms, lower sales, slower inventory turns, and lower gross margins occur when buyers cannot cope with the complexity of their business. These effects can readily be seen in the gap between good and average performers markdown rates: a 2.5 percentage point difference among department stores; 4 percentage points among specialty shops. Leading retailers have achieved these performance premiums by reducing complexity. They have stopped trying to be everything to everybody (Bianco et al, 2003). Regardless of their format or the market segment in which they compete, each has created a huge competitive advantage by focusing product offerings, narrowing market concentration, standardizing store size and layout, and simplifying the buyers job. Retailer like Wal-mart carries tens of thousands of items: 70,000 stock keeping units (SKUs) is not unusual for a discounter; a full-line department store often carries close to a million. Many of these items require fundamentally different sourcing and distribution methods and are in demand for only a few short months before seasons and hence assortments change (Bonache, 1999). One retailer we studied carried more than 1,200 different styles of knitwear, yet only 5 percent of them contributed almost 40 percent of sales. This retailer was carrying the cost of offering all those SKUs when less than half that number would provide a selection adequate for most customers needs. Internal Analysis Several Companies in the commercial and industrial business where Snap-On is major players are in a race that gets more difficult every year, with bigger, stronger, and more innovative competitors. In addition, the rules of the race are constantly changing with the emergence of electronic business, globalization, disruptive technologies, innovation and convergence of industries. Competitors who have been in other races suddenly join your race with strength, technology, and new approaches to the market, often becoming instant leaders (Palmer, 1997). Moreover, it is possible to lead in this race for long periods of time and to create significant value for shareholders and employees. To make the possibilities of these, different sectoral organizations need a strategy that sustains their strong position in the race, anticipates changes, and helps them continue to lead. The rules to be ahead are the following: â⬠¢ Competitive advantage is short-lived â⬠¢ Todayââ¬â¢s competitive advantage is tomorrowââ¬â¢s competitive requirement â⬠¢ Companies without a competitive advantage should expect, at best, zero return. For a variety of reasons, many companies have underdeveloped strategies. Sometimes an underdeveloped strategy is effective, a single spectacular idea can carry a business a long way, even without an explicitly stated strategy. Management intuition and organizational willpower can substitute temporarily as well. However, with the pace of business today, industry leaders need to think through and plan for the next industry lifecycle or risk being dethroned (Briscoe, 2004). It is possible in todayââ¬â¢s environment to fully engineer a company from a strategic point of view in a way that was unthinkable five years ago. Advances in technology, combined with worldwide deregulation and decontrol of product and financial markets, allows new flexibility in the implementation of company strategies. SWOT Analysis Strengths. Compared to the retail industry competitors of Wal-mart, the company exercises an almost direct access to the market-base. Since the company originated and developed in the U.S. economy, Wal-mart is highly of advantage compared to its competitors. This gives Wal-mart is well- experience, skilled, and knowledgeable of the people in the market. The centralized aspect of Wal-mart ensure capitalization of its brand globally which results to good return of investments and profits while the decentralized business approach of the franchises extends possible business opportunities for the entire business in terms of product innovation, design, research and development. This makes possible continuous growth of the business enterprise through a pool of creative staff and employees that contribute to the competence, security, image and integrity of the company. Other strengths of the company are as follows: Good strategic positioning has been the foundation of companyââ¬â¢s success. High employee productivity as a result of its good scheme. Vibrant and independent culture is supported with a generous profit-sharing plan and stock ownership plan for all employees. Technology innovations. An efficient management team. Constant focus in the companyââ¬â¢s mission. Weaknesses. Basically, tools and equipments in todayââ¬â¢s modern world is everywhere, with the help of globalization nonetheless. However, the problem with this is that world of the retail business has witnessed a dramatic shift in the way in which the market are determined away from an intrinsic interaction between the regional environmental factors towards the dominance by global capitalism. Retail goods are now being considered more of a retail material rather than a medium on which artists can express their artistic ideas to the fullest (Hill and Jones, 1998). Globalization has made statements of different cultures available to every individual around the world. Although mass production of this merchandise is being created with extensive consideration on production budget and marketing research, Wal-mart should be sensitive to the importance of maintaining art in its products and designs so as not to fall into the common retail-crafted orientation perception regarding todayââ¬â¢s market. As such, the development efforts and research initiatives and projects that the company invest in order to maintain continuous operation and competitive position call for wise selection of business opportunities as well as skilled leadership and risk management skills among its decision-makers. But more importantly, the company should foster tasteful and intrinsic creative designs for the consumers at the lowest possible prices. Good relationships with the suppliers and other business affiliations for the successful operation of the company lie should be observed. Moreover, technological innovations and facilities in tools and equipment marketing should be fully exhausted in order to serve the economic and aesthetic purposes of the company. Opportunities To survive in todays world globalization is important. Wal-mart have a wide opportunity to go global to improve and expand its business. They also have the opportunity to include more overseas supplier, which will actually give them cost advantage, as suppliers then can be available on a local level. Before they are able to take these opportunities they need to fix themselves up more strongly (Child and Faulkner, 1998). They also have the opportunity to use available technology to improve their functioning and to gain competitive advantage. Additional content area or expansion is an opportunity for the company to boost its market coverage. Joint ventures with other company paves way for integrating new business practices and would definitely be a good basis in their plans for international expansions. The company can form additional alliances that will facilitate the culture and business systems of a foreign neighbor to support its foreign growth strategy. Consumers want to effortlessness of shopping. Growing opportunities in internet shopping. Increase in dollar value Threats The continuous transformation of the monopolistic economic environment of U.S., the competitors in the local as well as the international childrenââ¬â¢s merchandise is a major intimidation to Wal-mart since highly acclaimed, recognized, popular and sophisticated companies in the fashion industry can exercise the same market penetration initiatives of the company. In particular, there are highly stable local apparel manufacturers that supply and distribute materials, designs and products to other internationally acknowledged clothing lines. These local manufacturers are also distributing their products and designs in the local market under their own respective brand names. At the international level American designs and products are existent and likewise persistent in increasing market share in lucrative business locations (Hessan and Whiteley, 1996). Small towns do not want entry of Wal-mart. Variety of Competition in the national, regional and local market. There is a powerful competition among substitute products As a result of the very competitive rivalry substitute products come in easily. Conclusion Wal-mart have been the best performers have learned to focus on a well-defined target market even as they expand geographically (Shah and Phipps, 2002). Wal-Mart, for example, has largely maintained its focus on customers with similar needs as it expanded across regions. The traditional Wal-Mart customer lives in a small town and is willing to drive a great distance to stock up on a wide range of items at the best possible price (Shah and Phipps, 2002). As the search for growth has brought Wal-Mart closer to urban customers, the company has had to support its merchandising performance by making additional investments in systems, communications, and executive travel in order to coordinate its widespread store network. Wal-Mart is considered to be a geographically-dispersed retailer, maintains market focus by expanding its store network region by region, building up enough scale in each one to justify regional buying offices dedicated to the specific needs of local customers (Briscoe, 2004).
